Thank you for breaking this down. I'm interested, but not passionate, about the PMC category, so this was quite useful. When I first heard the term it helped me put a finger on certain behaviors and attitudes that I've been bumping up against both at work (I'm a staff person in a university department), and family (I'm the only non-PhD in my immediate family), but I see the issues with it as a category. To your point toward the end, I remember Pascal from TIR say during a panel in his charming grumpy manner "anyone who knows the term PMC, is PMC!". It's replaced "bougie", I suppose.

Have you read Nancy Fraser? Highly recommend.
